Sandlapper Enduro at Hollow Creek Fire Dept.

The 41st Annual Sandlapper Enduro will be held at the Hollow Creek Fire Department on February 27 and 28, 2016.  This AMA and a SE&TRA race brings hundreds of riders and families to our area, many of which will support local restaurants and gas stations.

A Junior race will be held on Saturday morning.  Kids can register at the race.  The adult race will be held Sunday morning at 9:00.  Adults can register and enter the race right up until 9:00.  At 8:45, the no-show assignments will be available.  Entry fee is $65.  Registration pdf.

The Sandlapper Enduro runs between 50 and 70 miles through privately owned land with 6 wooded sections and 2 gas stops.  Riders average 24 mph.  The trail this year has 12 check crews consisting of 4 - 8 people.  For the past five years, the Sandlapper has been a national event with the NEPG.  This year, however, they opted out of the nationals.  "Sometimes you have to slow down in order to speed up."  Organizer Ricky Dennis explained that the trail needed a lot of rest and it was time to back out of the nationals for a season.

The 36-member Columbia Enduro Riders club under the leadership of Ricky and Rhonda Dennis volunteers each year to work this event.  The club is non-profit, all assistance is volunteer and this is the fire department's biggest fundraiser.  T-Shirts are sold to benefit the Ronald McDonald House.  Three local churches will be involved with raffles of their own.

Take the kids out to watch the riders.  The Hollow Creek Fire Department will serve a variety of food and beverages on both days for breakfast and lunch.  They serve an exceptional BBQ sandwich.  Go enjoy some amazing dirt bike racing and support the fire department while you're there.
