Mark your calendars so that you will not miss the farewell performance of the Edisto Singers at Wagener United Methodist Church, Dec. 12, 7 pm.. The singing group goes back to 1993 when a group of around 20 people under the direction of Harry Kirkland and accompanied by Nina Atkinson performed Bill and Gloria Gaither’s “In the Gardens”. The ‘one time only’ performance was so popular that the group evolved into the Edisto Singers presenting 5-6 performances during a spring and a fall concert every year since that first one in 1993. After the death of Harry Kirkland in 2011, his daughter, Michele Kirkland Burnett, willingly took over the directorship of the singers. Wagener United Methodist church has been honored to support the music ministry of the Edisto Singers by providing a home base for weekly practices. Thank you Edisto Singers for over 25 years of beautiful music provided by local people...and thank you to the late Harry Kirkland, Nina Atkinson and Michele Kirkland Burnett for your talents, vision, dedication and support of the Wagener area and its surrounding communities through the Edisto Singers. - Charlie Tyler
